Window Replacement in Los Altos

Mid-century ranches, rebuilt custom homes and a walkable downtown. We install in Los Altos from our Lewis Road showroom in San Jose.

Los Altos

Established streets, high expectations for the glass

Los Altos is a residential city of established neighborhoods and mature trees. Much of the housing went up from the 1950s onward, and many lots have since been remodeled or rebuilt. That produces a mix on any given street: original single-story ranches with aging windows beside newer custom homes with large glass. Replacement here is usually about fit and finish as much as efficiency.

Housing stock and what it means for windows

Los Altos has a lot of post-war single-story housing, including mid-century modern and Eichler-style homes, alongside remodels and new builds on the same streets. Original aluminum and early dual-pane units are now well past their service life. In the mid-century houses the glass is part of the architecture, so the replacement series has to suit the opening and not only the energy numbers.

Exposure and orientation

Most Los Altos lots are flat with mature trees, which shades some walls and leaves others fully exposed. West and southwest glass takes the afternoon heat and is where a Low-E package earns its cost; shaded north walls need less.

South Bay winter weather arrives from the south-southwest. That only decides a sill when the opening has little overhang.

Local notes

Things worth knowing before you order

Mid-century sightlines

Slim original frames and floor-to-ceiling glass are hard to match with a bulky replacement. We look at narrower-profile series and tell you plainly what will change.

Mixed old and new on one house

Many Los Altos homes have additions with newer windows beside originals. We help you decide what to replace together and what to match.

Large, heavy units

Big panes and wide spans put weight on headers and sills. We check the opening and the framing before committing to a product.

Meeting energy code

Replacement windows in California fall under Title 24 energy requirements. We spec compliant glass and explain what applies. See our Title 24 and Low-E glass page.

How the work goes

  2. 02

    Specify

We specify the product from the San Jose showroom and quote from the measured openings. Santa Clara County.

  3. 03

    Install

Our own crews install, then walk the job with you at the end. The showroom is at 180 Lewis Rd, Suite 13, San Jose. Call ahead to confirm hours.

About Los Altos

Los Altos was incorporated in 1952 and grew from orchard land into a residential city centered on State Street and Main Street downtown. It sits between Cupertino, Sunnyvale and Mountain View, with the town of Los Altos Hills just to the west.

Los Altos Hills is a separate town with its own building rules and larger, hillside lots. If you are on that side of the line, call and we will talk through your address.

Do you have a showroom in Los Altos?

No. The showroom is at 180 Lewis Rd in San Jose, where you can see window, door and moving glass wall samples. We measure and install at your Los Altos home.

Can you replace the glass walls in my mid-century or Eichler-style house?

We can. These openings need careful measuring and series selection to keep slim sightlines. We explain what will change visibly before you order.

Do you work in Los Altos Hills too?

Yes, we serve neighboring addresses from the same shop. Hillside and large-span openings get an in-person look before we quote.

How is pricing different here?

Los Altos pricing follows the measured opening, the series and the install scope, the same as in San Jose. It is not a city surcharge.

What areas near Los Altos do you serve?

We also work in Cupertino, Saratoga, Santa Clara, and across the South Bay. See the full list on our service areas page, or call (408) 227-7777 if your address is on the edge.
